FRANKLIN - The Franklin women's basketball team returned to their home floor on Wednesday (Jan. 10) night for a mid-week matchup against the Mount St. Joseph Lions.
The Grizzlies (9-5, 4-3 HCAC) were done in by a first quarter that saw the Lions (12-2, 6-1 HCAC) race out to a 17-point lead, with the Grizzlies running out of time on their comeback attempt in an 84-72 loss.
The opening 10 minutes dictated the rest of the night, with the Lions shooting 11-for-20 in the opening period to 4-for-18 for Franklin to take a 27-10 lead after one quarter. Franklin fought their way to get back within as little at 11 in the final quarter, but time ran out before they could get the game any closer.
Taylor Cooney led the Grizzlies with 15 points, followed by 14 from
Jordan Coon and 10 from
CiCi Bailey.
Payton Seay and
Kate Breeden finished just outside double figures with nine points each.
Bailey grabbed a team-high nine rebounds with Maddie Barned pulling down seven boards. Rebounds were 41-37 in the Lions' favor.
Franklin heads back out on the road on Saturday to start a four-game road trip, heading to Ohio to take on the Defiance Yellow Jackets. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
