DEFIANCE, Ohio – The Franklin women's basketball team tipped off a three-game road trip on Saturday (Jan. 13) afternoon, taking on the Defiance Yellow Jackets.
The Grizzlies (10-5, 5-3 HCAC) dominated the Yellow Jackets (0-15, 0-8 HCAC) all afternoon, rolling to a 76-48 win to get into double digit wins for the season.
Jordan Coon led Franklin with 19 points, one of four players to reach double figures in the game in points.
Taylor Cooney added 14 points,
Payton Seay had 13 and
Lauren Barker finished with 11 points to round out a balanced scoring attack.
The Grizzlies took the lead for good late in the first quarter and put the game out of reach with a dominant third period where they out-scored Defiance 20-9. Franklin shot 45.9% (28-for-61) from the floor while holding Defiance to 33.3% (19-for-57) on the afternoon.
The Grizzlies finished with a 48-28 edge in he rebounding battle, led by seven boards each from Seay and
CiCi Bailey. Franklin finished the game with a 20-5 advantage in points off turnovers and had 42 points in the paint.
Franklin continues their road trip on Wednesday (Jan. 17), heading to Hanover for a meeting with the Panthers. Start time is set for 7:00 p.m.
