RECAP | Men's Soccer Wraps Up Non-Conference Schedule with Road Win at Alma

ALMA, Mich. – The Franklin men's soccer team closed out non-conference play on Sunday (Sept. 24) afternoon with a matchup against the Alma Scots.

The Grizzlies (1-5-2) will take momentum into league play after scoring a pair of second half goals less than two minutes apart that proved to be the difference in a 3-1 win over the Scots (2-5-2).

The first strike of the day came in the 28th minute when a foul in the Alma box led to a penalty kick attempt that Eddy Yousak stuffed into the bottom left corner for the opener.

Alma equalized off a set piece in the 63rd minute but the Grizzlies put the game away with two players netting their first goals of the year in short order with under 15 minutes to play.

Jon Moore got the eventual game-winner in the 78th minute, sneaking in behind the defense and tucking home a Dany Escamilla through pass to make it a 2-1 game. Just 83 seconds later, Thiago Mendes buried his first career goal from the top of the goalie's box, slotting home a Theo Sasso centering feed for the first career points for each player.

Shots for the game were 22-20 in Alma's favor with shots on target 10-8 with the edge to Franklin. Moore was a threat all afternoon, finishing the game with six shot attempts and two shots on target. Yousak and Sasso each had three shots on goal to tie for the team lead. Ian Rowe had a strong game in goal, making seven saves.

Franklin kicks off conference play on Wednesday (Sept. 27) afternoon with a trip to Anderson for a meeting with the Ravens. Kick-off is set for 4:00 p.m.
