FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin men's soccer team battled Wilmington College to a draw in a spirited contest at Faught Stadium on Wednesday (Sept. 20) night.
Eddy Yousak scored less than 10 minutes in and Franklin (0-5-2) held off the Quakers (1-5-1) as the two teams exchanged chances throughout the second half of play.
Franklin grabbed the lead on their first shot on target of the night when
Dany Escamilla linked up with Yousak on the left wing and the senior winger nudged the ball over the goal line for his third of the season at the 7:49 mark. The field tilted in Wilmington's favor for the rest of the half and the Quakers found an equalizer in the 38
th minute, sending the teams into the break all square at a goal each.
The second half saw Franklin come out on the front foot but the Quakers fought off four Franklin attempts at the go-ahead goal. Senior goalkeeper
Ian Rowe came up big when called on, stopping three quality Wilmington chances in the final half of play.
Shot attempts were 18-13 in Wilmington's favor on the night with Rowe turning away six of seven shots on target.
Theo Sasso paced the Griz attack with five shot attempts with Yousak,
Jon Moore and
Htoo Ray Moo all adding two attempts.
Franklin closes out non-conference play on Sunday (Sept. 24) afternoon, hitting the road for a meeting with the Alma Scots. Kick-off is set for 3:00 p.m.
