FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College women's soccer team kicked off the 2023 season on Friday (Sept. 1) night and turned in a strong performance to claim their first victory of the year.
Franklin (1-0) got a pair of late first half goal and suffocated the Mountaineers (0-1) the rest of the way, winning the game 3-0 and sending the home fans home happy.
The two teams stayed locked in a scoreless draw until the 39
th minute when freshman
Lauren Barker slotted home a right wing shot just inside the far post for the first goal of her career. Less than three minutes later, another Grizzly netted the first goal of her career when junior
Sydney Doan poked home a loose ball right in front of the net to double Franklin's lead.
The Grizzlies conceded just two shot attempts in the final 45 minutes and junior Jaden Baker added the finishing touches with an 82
nd minute goal off a feed from
Macy Stuck, with Stuck earning the first point of her playing career.

Makenna Mundy earned the clean sheet in goal, turning back two shots for the home side.
Franklin is back at home on Sunday (Sept. 3) afternoon, hosting Muskingum at 1:00 p.m.
