DELAWARE, Ohio – The Franklin volleyball team wrapped up a busy weekend of competition with two more games on Saturday (Sept. 16) at the Ohio Wesleyan Invite.
The Grizzlies (3-7) snapped a six-game skid in the opener, beating Spalding in four sets 17-25, 26-24, 25-22, 25-17. The late session was less than kind as host Ohio Wesleyan came away with a three-set victory 25-12, 25-16, 25-17.
Franklin 3 – Spalding 1
The turning point in the match with Spalding came late in the second set with Franklin already down a game and staring down match point in set two with the Golden Eagles ahead 24-19. But a pair of kills from
Hope Moring and four forced errors from the Spalding attack proved critical as Franklin rattled off seven straight points to close out a huge comeback in the second set.
Franklin rallied to take the third set with three straight points to break a 22-22 tie with
McKenzie Schroeder notching the go-ahead kill and sister Trinity Schroder ending the set with a solo block. The Grizzlies raced out a 13-4 in the fourth set and never looked back, not allowing Spalding to get within six the rest of the set.
Moring had a team-high nine kills with
McKenzie Schroeder adding seven and Franklin getting six from both
Alyssa Zemlyak and
Miranda Wilson.
Brionna Linkel and
Sofia Helton both handed out 15 assists from the setter spot.
Campbell Clark led the back line with 16 digs followed by 15 from Moring. Trinity Schroder led the net front with six blocks followed by four from Zemlyak.
