FRANKLIN, Ind. –
Dany Escamilla scored a dramatic 90
th minute goal on Monday (Sept. 11) night, fending off defeat and giving the Franklin men's soccer team a 2-2 draw with Dension in front of their home fans.
Escamilla and
Eddy Yousak both found the back of the net for the Grizzlies (0-3-1) and goalkeeper
Ian Rowe turned back eight shots between the pipes as Franklin prevented Dension (4-0-1) from a fifth straight win to open the season.
Down by a goal in the early going, Franklin got level in the 11
th minute when Yousak finished off a quality pass from
Britton Heinrich into the bottom left corner of the net. Denison re-took the lead in the 17
th minute and nearly added another late in the first half if not for back-to-back saves in tight from Rowe.
Franklin had a golden chance to equal in the 65
th minute with a free kick just outside the 18-yard box. But
Lucas Pereira's low shot was scooped up by Denison's keeper to keep the lead intact.
With less than a minute to go, Franklin pushed the ball up the field in search of the tying marker.
Jon Moore sent a crossing pass into the box that was headed out by a Big Red defender, but Escamilla swooped in and went with a touch from chest-to-foot and slammed the ball into the back of the net for the tying marker.
Shots were 15-8 in Denison's favor on the night with Yousak leading Franklin's attack wit three attempts. Rowe's eight saves in goal matched a season-high.
Franklin heads back out on the road on Wednesday (Sept. 13) for a matchup against the Otterbein Cardinals. Kick-off is set for 6:00 p.m.
