RECAP | Griz Get Two Strong Pitching Performances, Drop Pair of One-Run Games with Denison

GRANVILLE, Ohio – Fresh off a strong homestand, the Franklin softball team hit the road on Thursday (Mar. 9) for two games against the Denison Big Red.

The Grizzlies (9-3) got two stellar efforts in the circle from starters Sydney Pitts and Stephanni Kleber. But on a day where runs were at a premium, the Big Red (6-2) scraped enough just enough to take a pair of one-run wins by scores of 2-1 and 1-0.

Game One: Denison 2 – Franklin 1

The Big Red got one run in both the first and third innings while the Grizzlies recorded just one hit in their first four trips to the plate. Franklin rallied for their run in the fifth thanks to a two-out error that allowed Eriana Wagner to score, but the Griz left the bags full at the end of the inning. The Grizzlies put the tying run in scoring position in the seventh, but Sydney Rodeghier was induced into a fly out to end the game.

Molly Wallace reached base in all three of her trips to the plate, recording one hit and drawing two walks. Pitts (2-0) went the distance in the circle, allowing two earned runs on eight hits with two walks and a strikeout.

Game Two: Denison 1 – Franklin 0
The game's lone run came via a Denison solo home run in the bottom of the fourth. Franklin's best chance to get on the board came in the sixth when they put two on base with one out. The inning came to end at the plate when Alyssa Pasch tried to score from second on a Sydney Bostic single, but she was cut down at home to end the inning and the threat.

Kleber (4-1) allowed just four hits while walking two and striking out six in a complete game effort in the circle.
