RECAP | Grizzlies Slug their Way to Sweep of Olivet on Monday Afternoon

FRANKLIN – The Franklin softball team wrapped up a six-game homestand on Monday (Mar. 6) afternoon with two games against the Olivet Comets.

The Grizzles (9-1) wrapped up the first quarter of their season with two dominant wins over the Comets (0-2), winning 12-3 in game one and 13-1 in game two with both games going five innings.

Game One: Franklin 12 – Olivet 3 (5 inn.)
Franklin's offense tagged Olivet pitching for 10 runs in the opening two innings to set the tone for the day. Annie Kluemper and Eriana Wagner had RBI doubles in the first and both drove in runs in the second with Kluemper knocking home a run with a single and Wagner clubbing her third home run in as many days with a three-run blast that made it a 10-0 game.

Franklin plated a run in the third with an Erin Bruce RBI single and the Griz added an unearned run in the fourth to cap the scoring.

Freshman Hadley Fuhrman (2-0) made her first career start in the circle, allowing two earned runs on four hits with a walk and four strikeouts. Sydney Pitts logged two innings of scoreless ball in relief.

Game Two: Franklin 13 – Olivet 1 (5 inn.)
The Grizzlies surrendered a first inning run but the offense would pick up where they left off with a nine-spot in the bottom of the opening frame. Genesis Munoz, Molly Wallace, Skylar Weber and Kluemper all knocked home runs and the Griz capitalized on four Olivet errors in the inning.

Franklin capped the blowout with two more runs in the second and third innings, respectively, with Sydney Rodeghier and Kennedy Bond recording RBI singles.

Making her first career appearance in the circle and picking up the win was freshman Kylie Kadel (1-0), as she tossed four innings of five-hit ball with three strikeouts.
