RECAP | Women's Swimming & Diving Opens Calendar Year at Colonel Classic

DANVILLE, Ky. – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team hit the pool for the first time in the new year, taking part in the Colonel Classic hosted by Centre College on Jan. 6-7.
 
The Grizzlies claimed three event victories and brough home a third place finish with a team score of 379 points.
 
A pair of familiar faces paced the Grizzly swimmers in senior Caileigh McCafferty and junior Samantha Phillips. McCafferty won the 200 IM in 2:16.01 and added a second place finish in the 100 backstroke (1:01.91) and third place showing in the 200 backstroke (2:16.23). Phillips was victorious in the 200 butterfly with a time of 2:16.30 and claimed runner-up showings in both the 200 free (2:04.35) and 500 free (5:26.01).
 
Senior Faith Jackson led the way on an impressive afternoon for the Grizzly divers, winning on the one-meter board with 229.50 points. Right behind in the top five was runner-up Carley Bond (214.10), third place finisher Kaleigh Schuler (197.75) and fourth place finisher Gabby Cunningham (180.95).
 
Other notable finishes for the Grizzlies included:
  • 400 free relay – 3rd place in 3:52.36
  • 800 free relay – 4th place in 8:32.56
  • Regan Hendricks – 4th in 200 breaststroke (2:42.66)
  • Erin Perkins – 4th in 1650 free (19:11.88)
  • Kennedy Minter – 5th in 100 butterfly (1:04.12)
  • Becky Pfeifer – 6th in 100 breaststroke (1:17.07)
 
Up Next
The Grizzlies are back at it next Friday (Jan. 13) night, heading to Ohio for a dual matchup with the Wittenberg Tigers. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
