FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's basketball team hosted their first opponent of the new year on Saturday (Jan. 7), taking on the Anderson Ravens in a big Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) matchup.
A pair of Grizzlies (7-6, 4-2 HCAC) had career scoring afternoons as
Sarah O'Day had 21 points and
Georgia Hanauer had 19 off the bench. But a late game dry spell on the offensive end proved costly as Anderson (8-5, 4-2 HCAC) held on for a 79-71 win.
How it Happened
Down 15-14 after one quarter, the Grizzlies erupted with 22 second quarter points to just 11 for the Ravens. O'Day had 10 points in the second period alone and Franklin held Anderson to 2-for-13 in the period to take a 36-26 lead into the break.
Eight straight points from the Ravens opened the second half and brought the game to a one-possession contest. Franklin would answer with a 10-0 run of their own late in the quarter to take a 55-50 lead into the final period. The fourth quarter saw five ties and five lead changes and two Hanauer free throws made it 72-71 Anderson with 3:12 to play. But Franklin missed their final five field goal attempts and the Ravens were able to pull away down the stretch.
