FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's swimming and diving team picked up two dual wins in less than 24 hours, besting Wittenberg in a Friday (Jan. 13) night road dual and DePauw on Saturday afternoon at home.
The Grizzlies opened the weekend by steam-rolling Wittenberg 153.5-39.5 and kept the momentum going a day later with a 165-129 win over DePauw, the first head-to-head win over the Tigers in program history.
FRANKLIN VS. WITTENBERG
Against Wittenberg, the Grizzlies claimed first place in all 11 events on their way to victory over the Tigers. Two swimmers earned a pair of first place finishes on the night with
Jack Burke winning the 200 free (1:51.94) and the 100 butterfly (52.58) and
Campbell Coyle taking first in the 50 free (22.07) and 100 free (48.67).
Other event winners came in the form of
Nick Coy in the 1000 free (10:54.23),
Vincent Fletcher in the 200 IM (2:03.71),
Logan Parker in the 100 backstroke (56.33),
Kyle Haflich in the 500 free (5:03.03) and
Kosmo Wojack in the 100 breaststroke (1:05.27).
Both of Franklin's relay teams claimed victory as well. Parker, Wojack,
Tyler Wood and
John Hasquin teamed up to win the 200 medley relay in 1:41.64. Coyle, Burke, Hasquin and Fletcher closed the night by winning the 200 free relay in 1:29.85.
FRANKLIN VS. DEPAUW
The Grizzlies picked up wins in 11 of the afternoon's 16 events with four members of the team claiming wins in multiple events to spear-head the win over DePauw. Coyle and Burke were dominant in all of their individual events, taking the top spot in three different races.
Coyle won three of the five freestyle events on the day, claiming the 100 free in 48.34, the 200 free in 1:47.06 and the 500 free in 4:56.15. Burke swept the backstroke swims, winning the 100 back in 53.85, the 200 back in 2:00.35 and he also claimed the 200 IM in 2:01.91.
Wood was also a multi-event winner for the Griz, claiming the 1000 free in 10:25.39 and the 100 breaststroke in 1:02.61. Wojack was a winner in the 200 butterfly in 2:01.11 and he added key runner-up finishes in the 100 butterfly (53.64) and 200 breaststroke (2:18.90).
Senior
Gauge Creech won both diving events on Saturday afternoon, first taking the top spot on the three-meter board with 338.93 points and later finishing with a score of 316.87 on the one-meter board.
The Grizzlies are on the road for the final time in the regular season next Friday (Jan. 20) night, heading to Terre Haute, Ind. for a tri-meet with Rose-Hulman and Hanover. Start time is set for 6:00 p.m.
