BEREA, Ky. – A big second half in the attack zone led to the first win of the year for the Franklin women's soccer team on Sunday (Sept. 4) afternoon.
Led by a five-point afternoon from senior forward
Elaina Page, the Grizzlies (1-1) used a three-goal second half to push past the Mountaineers (0-2) for a 4-1 victory and earn the first win as FC head coach for Jen Jackson.
How it Happened
The Grizzlies used some savvy counter attacking for the game's first goal. Coming off a 28
th minute save from
Makenna Mundy, Franklin stormed back down the field that ended when
Lilly Haines stuck home the game's first goal at the 29:48 minute.
Less than a minute into the second half, the Grizzlies doubled their lead when Page set up a streaking
Abby Holmer for her first tally of the year and second of her career. But the Mountaineers would get on the board in the 53
rd minute to slice the deficit in half and set up a frantic final half hour of play.
But no comeback was in the books for the home side as Mundy turned back both of the Berea attempts to tie the game. Page would cap the win with two goals less than a minute apart in the 86
th and 87
th minutes, respectively.
