RECAP | Yousak Finds the Net for Grizzlies in Home Opener with Spalding

FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College men's soccer team made their home debut on Sunday (Sept. 4) night, welcoming the Spalding Golden Eagles to Faught Stadium for a non-conference matchup.

A tightly contested match saw the Grizzlies (0-2) get on the board early but fell victim to two Spalding (1-1) goals early in each half. A frantic, late-game push saw Franklin generate quality chances in the final minutes but were unable to net the tying goal in a 2-1 loss.

How it Happened
The Grizzlies got on the board just 10:08 into the match with Yousak sticking home his first goal of the year. Following a long free kick from Angel Tapia, the ball bounced to the junior forward 10 yards out and he deposited the ball into the net for an early 1-0 Franklin lead.

But the lead would only last 3:53 as the Golden Eagles tied the game on the counter attack. That wrapped up the scoring for the opening 45 with the teams heading into the break tied 1-1.

Spalding grabbed the lead in the 60th minute and fended off a Franklin push in the final 10 minutes that saw Dany Escamilla, Logan Ramsey, Cooper Gross and Yousak all turn in quality scoring chances.

Inside the Box Score
-Shots were 14-9 in the Golden Eagles' favor, with Yousak sending four shot attempts at the net.
-Midfielder Enzo De Marco made his first career start, finishing with two shots and one shot on target in 61 minutes of action.
-Ian Rowe stopped three shots in goal for Franklin.

Up Next
The Grizzlies won't have time to rest, as they hit the road on Monday (Sept. 5) for a match with the Trine Thunder. Kick-off is set for 1:00 p.m.
