JACKSONVILLE, Ill. – The Franklin College volleyball team closed out their opening weekend of competition on Saturday (Sept. 3) morning, taking on the Monmouth Fighting Scots in their final game of the Illinois College Invitational.
Freshman
Kaitlyn Lavy put down a season high 16 kills to lead the Franklin (1-2) attack, but the Grizzlies dropped a hard-fought battle with the Fighting Scots in four sets, 25-22, 25-18, 21-25, 25-19.
After dropping two tightly contested sets to open the game, the Grizzlies rushed out to a 7-0 lead in game three and never looked back. The Scots got within two late in the set, but a
Hope Moring kill and following Monmouth attack error netted Franklin their lone set of the day.
Lavy led all pin hitters in kills and ended the day with 15 kills for her first career double-double. Moring and
Chloe Holder just missed out on double digit kills, finishing with nine each.
Senior setter
Billie Jarrett also notched a double-double with 36 assists and 16 digs. Freshman libero
Campbell Clark posted her highest dig total of the weekend, leading the team with 21 on the day.
