FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin women's soccer team wrapped up non-conference play on Saturday (Sept. 24) afternoon, taking on the Wilmington Quakers at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies (2-5) and Quakers (6-2) battled in a physical matchup that was decided by just one goal. But that was bad news for the hosts as a set piece tally early in the first half stood up with Wilmington holding on for a 1-0 win.
How it Happened
The game's lone goal came in the sixth minute on a corner kick that bent its way inside of Franklin's far post. The Grizzlies had two prime scoring chances in the first 45 with
Jaiden Baker just missing the target in the 19
th minute and
Elaina Page's 25
th minute bid for the top of the net turned away by the fingertips of the goalkeeper.
Page had another chance at equalizing in the 68
th minute but her low shot near the goal line was swatted aside. The rest of the match saw the Quakers clamp down on defense without allowing another scoring chance.
