RECAP | Big Second Half, Stifling Defensive Effort Leads to Second Straight Win

OLIVET, Mich. – The Franklin College women's basketball team used a dominant defensive effort to claim their second straight road win on Wednesday (Dec. 7) night.

The Grizzlies (3-3) put the clamps on Olivet (2-6) all night long, holding the Comets to 22.6% shooting on the night in a 57-42 win.

How it Happened
Both offenses struggled to find their footing early on as the two defenses dictated the pace in the first quarter. Lauryn Bates had seven first quarter points to lead all players but Franklin headed into the second quarter trailing 11-9. The Comets opened the second quarter with a 10-0 run but Franklin clawed their way back into striking distance with a 10-2 run to close the half and cut the lead to 23-19.

The halftime break proved to be just what the Grizzlies needed, as the offense ripped off an 11-1 run to start the period while the defense held the Comets without a field goal for the first 4:26 of the third quarter. Franklin's lead hit double digits for the first time thanks to a Jasmine Walker layup with 3:26 to go that made it 36-26 and the Grizzlies carried a 38-31 lead into the final quarter.

Four straight Comet points opened the fourth quarter to get the hosts within three, but Franklin put the game out of reach shortly after. A 10-2 Grizzly run put the game out of reach, and Franklin's lead would hit as many as 17 before the final horn.
