RECAP | Grizzly Women Take Fourth at Gail Pebworth Invitational

CRAWFORDSVILLE, Ind. – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team faced off against a challenging field of teams over a three-day stretch at the Gail Pebworth Invitational, hosted by Wabash College on Nov. 18-20.
 
It was a strong showing for the Grizzlies over the long weekend as they placed fourth overall with 1,397.5 points.
 
A pair of Grizzly women found their way into the 'A' heat finals in four different events with each winning one time. Senior Caileigh McCafferty was the first to pick up a win as part of a strong weekend, as she claimed top billing in the 200 IM in 2:06.81. McCafferty would add runner-up finishes in the 100 backstroke (58.15) and 200 backstroke (2:06.67) and a third place showing in the 100 butterfly (59.64).
 
Junior Samantha Phillips continued her tear this season with a win in the 200 butterfly in 2:08.51. She would also earn three other top-10 finishes with a runner-up finish in the 500 free (5:10.39), fourth place showing in the 200 free (1:57.11) and sixth place finish in the 100 butterfly (59.64).
 
Four other Griz swimmers reached the 'A' finals in their races over the weekend. Kennedy Minter placed ninth in both the 100 butterfly (1:01.13) and 100 IM (1:03.18). Regan Hendricks finished seventh in the 400 IM (4:48.38) and 10th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.97). Erin Perkins placed eighth in the 1650 free (18:40.91) and 10th in the 200 butterfly (2:19.54). Finally, Becky Pfeifer took eighth in the 200 breaststroke (2:34.04).
 
Franklin claimed the top two spots on both diving boards over the weekend, with senior Faith Jackson winning both events and Carley Bond finishing as the runner-up. Jackson racked up 377.10 points on the three-meter board and 396.05 points on the one-meter board. Bond wasn't far behind in either event, finishing with 345.85 points on the three-meter board and 358.95 points on the one-meter board.
 
The Grizzlies are off until Saturday, Dec. 3 when they welcome Hanover and Manchester to town for a conference tri-meet. Start time is set for 1:00 p.m.
