TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin College women's swimming & diving team opened the 2022-23 season on Saturday (Oct. 15) afternoon at the Indiana DIII Invitational, hosted by Rose-Hulman.
The Grizzlies claimed wins in nine of the day's 17 events and would finish second overall with 678 points.
Three different Grizzlies recorded multiple event wins, with senior
Caileigh McCafferty accounting for a trio of first place finishes for FC. The Wonder Lake, Ill.-native took the top spot in the 100 backstroke (1:01.70), 200 backstroke (2:14.65) and 200 IM (2:18.39). Junior
Samantha Phillips claimed first in both the 100 butterfly (1:02.25) and 200 butterfly (2:16.49) while earning runner-up in the 200 freestyle (2:02.92).
Senior
Faith Jackson was a winner in both diving events, taking the top spot with 221.55 points on the 3-meter board and 253.20 points on the 1-meter board.
Sophomore
Erin Perkins was a winner in the 1000 freestyle (11:32.13) and added a runner-up finish in the 500 freestyle (5:36.70).
Maggie McGuire picked up runner-up finishes in the 100 breaststroke (1:12.98) and the 200 breaststroke (2:37.38).
The Grizzlies claimed first in the 400 freestyle relay with
Grace Williams, Becky Pfeifer, Perkins and
Jyllian Antle hitting the finish line in 4:03.25. The 200 medley relay team of McCafferty, Phillips,
Regan Hendricks and
Kennedy Minter took second in 1:56.44.
Franklin is back in the pool next Saturday (Oct. 22), heading to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Indiana Intercollegiate Meet.
