FRANKLIN, Ind. – The Franklin College volleyball team had the chance to start off Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play 1-0 with a Saturday (Oct. 1) afternoon matchup with the Anderson Ravens inside the Spurlock Center.
Every Grizzly (7-9, 1-0 HCAC) that saw the floor played a vital role, as Franklin took down the Ravens (8-6, 0-1 HCAC) in four sets, 23-25, 26-24, 25-20, 25-22. Four different Grizzlies reached double digit kills and five players recorded at lead 10 digs in the win.
How it Happened
A slow start plagued the Grizzlies in set one, as Anderson opened the game with a 10-4 lead and held off a late charge to take a 1-0 lead. The turning point came late in set two when Anderson fought off set point to tie the game at 24 before Franklin stuffed their comeback bid with back-to-back points to even things up.
Set three saw the home side pull away midway through the set, hitting a game-best .263 and getting nine kills in the third game from
Miranda Wilson to move within a set of victory. Holding a 15-14 lead midway through game four, Franklin put the match on ice with five straight points and held off another late-game comeback attempt with Wilson putting the finishing touches on the victory with her 18
th kill to close things out.
