Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Franklin College women's soccer team was back on the road on Wednesday (Sept. 8) night, making a short trip to face in-state rival DePauw University.
The Grizzlies (0-3) and Tigers (1-2) were locked in a scoreless draw until late in the second half, when a DePauw marker proved to be the deciding factor and gave the hosts a 1-0 win.
The Grizzlies were under fire throughout the first half, but were able to keep the Tigers off the scoresheet thanks to four first half saves from freshman keeper Makenna Mundy. Franklin's best look came in the ninth minute when Jaiden Baker's opportunity sailed to the left of the DePauw cage.
The game's deciding play came in the 78th minute when the Tigers capitalized on a rebound for the game's only goal. Franklin had their best chance of the game in the 88th minute, but DePauw keeper Maya Caldwell handled Elaina Page's last-ditch attempt.
Making her first career start between the pipes, Mundy turned in a strong effort as Franklin's back stop with eight saves.
The Grizzlies will be back in action on Sunday (Sept. 12) afternoon for the first of four straight contests at Faught Stadium. Franklin will face off with St. Mary's College with kick-off set for 2:00 p.m.
