Following a bitter defeat on Friday, Franklin women's soccer coach talked about wanting to see how her team would respond.
Jackson got what she was hoping for on Sunday afternoon, when the Grizzlies scored on a pair of set pieces to come away with a 2-0 victory over Knox at Faught Stadium.
"Obviously winning feels great," Jackson said, "but seeing the girls respond to a really frustrating outcome on Friday and just put the ball in the net was fantastic."
The Grizzlies (2-1) created some chances early, with freshman
Mylee McAdams getting off a pair of shots in the first eight minutes, and then finally cashed in late in the 20th minute when a free kick from junior
Issy Pridemore from the right side found the head of freshman
Trinity Inglert.
With 25:34 left in the second half, Franklin doubled its lead when McAdams rose from a crowd in the box to head home an
Emma Myers corner kick.
Knox had its chances down the stretch, getting off eight shots in the second half, but the Griz defense held firm. Junior netminder
Emma Watson made five saves, including one in the final 30 seconds of the match, to finish off her second shutout of the young season.
"Credit to Knox — they were really, really challenging," Jackson said. "I think we're both much improved from last year when we played, and ... the quality showed. We were fortunate and came out on top; it was a tough battle."
Franklin is back at home Wednesday evening against Wilmington.
