Box Score TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – Coming off of an eight-day layoff, the Franklin women's soccer team stepped back onto the pitch on Wednesday (Mar. 10) night for a road match against defending conference champion Rose-Hulman.
The Grizzlies (1-1) threw everything they had at the Engineers (3-0), playing even through 84 minutes before a long Rose-Hulman shot found the net for the game-winner in a 1-0 contest.
How it Happened
The Engineers controlled the opening 45 minutes, holding an 8-2 advantage in shots when the teams hit the halftime break. Franklin goalkeeper Brianna Rogers was brilliant in keeping the Engineers off the board, turning aside all four attempts on target.
Rogers turned back each of the first two attempts of the second half and the Grizzly offense found its footing after that by pumping the next three shot attempts on net. Disaster struck in the 85th minute when Lane Lawrence lofted a shot attempt from long range that fluttered just out of Rogers' reach and into the top left corner.
Elaina Page had a look at the tying goal in the final 20 seconds but her bid was turned aside right before the final horn.
