Box Score GREENCASTLE, Ind. – The Franklin College women's basketball team closed out non-conference play on Thursday (Dec. 30) afternoon, taking on the Milwaukee School of Engineering in the third place game of the DePauw Amy Hasbrook Memorial Tournament.
Franklin (4-6) got career scoring outputs from sophomores CiCi Bailey and Kayla Bruner as well as freshman Georgia Hanauer, with the Bruner sinking a dramatic buzzer-beater that sent the game into overtime. In the extra session, the Raiders (4-6) found just enough offense to take the win by a 74-71 score.
How it Happened
The Raiders opened the game with an 11-2 run, but the Grizzlies started to find their offensive groove late in the quarter to cut the deficit to 15-8 after 10 minutes of play. A 10-0 Franklin run in the second quarter brought the Grizzlies within a point, and Franklin would head into the break facing a 25-23 deficit.
A triple from Bruner opened the second half and gave Franklin their first lead of the day. Neither team led by more than three points in the third quarter and two Jenna Lounden free throws late in the period tied the game up at 40 with one quarter to go. The Raiders led for the entirety of the fourth quarter, knocking down two free throws with a little over a second to play to take a three-point lead.
Coming out of a Franklin timeout, Bruner got a clean look from the top of the key and buried a deep three to send the game to extra time. The Grizzlies faced a similar scenario in the extra period, but lightning did not strike twice as Chelbie Anderson's game-tying attempt was off the mark.
