RECAP | Late Scoring Drought Proves Costly in Loss at Anderson

Box Score

ANDERSON, Ind. – The Franklin women's lacrosse team headed north for their first Heartland Collegiate Lacrosse Conference (HCLC) road match of the year on Wednesday (Apr. 10), taking on the Anderson Ravens.

The Grizzlies (0-5, 0-2 HCLC) jumped out to an early lead, but a lengthy first half scoring drought allowed the Ravens (1-6, 1-3 HCLC) to escape the early deficit and take an 18-9 decision.

Franklin potted the first two goals of the game, getting unassisted tallies from Haley Ash and Peytan Mills in the opening seven minutes. Anderson evened up the game with two goals in a two-minute span, but Abbey Voss would put Franklin back on top at the 18:10 mark with an unassisted goal, her sixth goal of the season.

But the next 15 minutes belonged to the Ravens, as Anderson rattled off six straight goals to take their first lead of the contest. The Grizzlies would take a little momentum into the second half following back-to-back goals from Shelbi Hunter and Brooke Hughes to close out the half and pull the Grizzlies within three at 8-5.

Both sides traded goals to open the second half, with Ash scoring twice, Hunter netting her second of the night and Kendall Hovis burying her first goal of the year, the final goal cutting the Ravens' lead to 13-9 with 15:27 to play. But Franklin was unable to find the net again down the stretch, and Anderson closed out the game with five straight goals.

Voss led the Grizzlies with 10 shot attempts and six shots on goal. Ash put all four of her shot attempts on net and Sam Collier was also credited with four shots. Kara Hawkins scooped up a team-leading three ground balls while Voss and Mills tied for the team lead with a pair of draw controls. In goal, Courtney Jones turned aside 14 Anderson shots.

The Grizzlies wrap up a two-game road trip on Saturday (Apr. 13), heading to Lexington, Ky. for a conference showdown with Transylvania. The opening draw is set for 1:00 p.m.
