Balanced Scoring Attack Leads to Win at Thomas More

Crestview Hills, Ky. - Four players recorded a hat trick as the Franklin College women's lacrosse won its 2016 season finale 17-7 at Thomas More College on Sunday in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference play.

The Grizzlies concluded their second season in program history with a 6-6 record and a 4-4 mark in conference matches. Franklin finished in fifth place in the league standings.

After trailing 7-5 early in the second half, Franklin scored 12 unanswered goals to pick up the road victory. A goal from senior Presleigh Hobbs (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) on a free position shot to start the strong finish.

Junior Hannah Grow (Morton, Ill./Morton) found the back of the net to square the match at 7-7 with 25:14 remaining in the contest. Franklin took an 8-7 lead at the 24:50 mark after Grow provided a pass to senior Carley Campbell (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) for the team's third consecutive goal.

Franklin scored three more times in the next four minutes to hold an 11-7 lead. A goal from freshman Brooke Hughes (Rossville, Ind./Rossville) gave the Grizzlies a 12-7 with 16:49 left. Senior Paige Clark (Jefferson, Ohio/Jefferson Area) scored two goals in the final 14 minutes. Sophomore Abby Stayer (Dayton, Ohio/Chaminade Julienne) gave Franklin a 17-7 lead and capped the scoring with a goal in the final three minutes of the match.

In the first half, Franklin scored five straight goals to hold a 5-2 lead after Hughes tallied a goal at the 11:45 mark of the period. However, Thomas More answered with four consecutive goals to conclude the 30-minute period. The Saints led 6-5 and tallied the first goal of the second half in the first 1:17 of the second half.

Junior Lexi Ingram (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South), Campbell, Grow, and Hobbs each scored three goals in the match. Clark and Hughes each added two goals for Franklin. Grow led the team with three assists and winning five draws. Ingram added four draws victories, while Clark recorded three draws.

Junior goalkeeper Kayanna Wolter (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) made 11 saves in picking up the victory in goal. She won six games between the pipes in 2016.

Sunday's match concluded the careers of seniors Megan Rhotan (Blackford, Ind./Hartford City), Emily Erlenbaugh (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Campbell, Clark, and Hobbs.
