Box Score Franklin, Ind. - Junior Lexi Ingram (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored a single-game school record seven goals as the Franklin College women's lacrosse team lost a hard-fought 17-11 match to Transylvania University on Senior Night on Saturday from Faught Stadium in Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference (ORWLC) action.
The Grizzlies (5-5, 3-3 ORWLC) used a 5-1 run early in the first half to take a 5-4 lead. Ingram capped the scoring run with her third goal of the match with 20:21 left in the first half. The hosts regained the lead, 6-5, after Ingram found the back of the net at the 17:41 mark of the opening period.
Transylvania (12-2, 6-0 ORWLC), leads the conference and has won 12 straight matches, closed the first half with four straight goals to hold a 9-6 lead after the first 30 minutes of action.
In the second half the teams alternated goals until Franklin scored two consecutive goals to get within 11-9 at the 23:37 mark. Ingram converted a free position shot for her fifth tally of the match.
The Pioneers tallied three straight goals to push the margin to five goals, 14-9, with 21:57 remaining in the contest. Two goals by Ingram in the next eight minutes cut Franklin's deficit to 15-11. The visitors sealed the victory behind a pair of goals from Julia Ward in the final 10 minutes of the match.
Ingram scored her seven goals on eight shots. She also picked up a match-high five ground balls. Junior Hannah Grow (Morton, Ill./Morton) and sophomore Cali Wetli (Ladoga, Ind./South Montgomery) each tallied two goals in the contest. Grow won a team-high three draws.
Senior Paige Clark (Jefferson, Ohio/Jefferson Area) recorded three ground balls and won two draws.
Senior Megan Rhotan (Blackford, Ind./Hartford City) caused a match-high two turnovers to help lead the defensive unit.
Junior goalkeeper Kayanna Wolter (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) made 10 saves and was a perfect 7-for-7 in clears for the match.
Prior to the contest the athletic department recognized seniors Carley Campbell (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Emily Erlenbaugh (Plainfield, Ind./Plainfield), Presleigh Hobbs (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove), Clark, and Rhotan for their contributions in leading the program to the NCAA Division III level. The Grizzlies have won eight matches in their first two seasons at the intercollegiate level.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, April 23, at 2 p.m. when it travels to Saint Vincent College. The team also plays at Thomas More College on Sunday, April 24, at 3 p.m. to close out the regular season.
