Box Score Hanover, Ind. - Junior Hannah Grow (Morton, Ill./Morton) tied a school record with six goals in leading the Franklin College women's lacrosse team to a thrilling 11-10 road victory over Hanover College on Tuesday to begin Ohio River Women's Lacrosse Conference (ORWLC) play.
The Grizzlies (3-2, 1-0 ORWLC) scored twice in the last 1:20 of the first half to take an 8-6 lead after the first 30-minute period. Grow found the back of the net for the fourth time of the first half to start the late surge. She later added a goal with 36 seconds remaining in the first half to give Franklin the two-goal advantage.
Consecutive goals by junior Lexi Ingram (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) in the second half pushed the margin to three goals, 10-7, with 23:40 left in the contest.
Hanover (3-5, 1-1 ORWLC) mounted a rally with goals by Megan Weaver and Isabella Miller to cut the deficit to 10-9 at the 14:05 mark of the season half.
However, the Grizzlies won the draw to gain possession to halt the momentum. The visitors maintained control of the ball for over 10 minutes before Grow found the back of the net after receiving a pass from senior Presleigh Hobbs (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove). The goal gave Franklin an 11-9 lead with 4:07 left.
One minute later the Panthers scored on a goal from Miller. Franklin junior goalkeeper Kayanna Wolter (Greensburg, Ind./Greensburg) made a key save of a shot attempt by Hanover's Cassie Hendrickson at the 1:33 mark. Wolter successfully cleared the ball from the attacking zone and the Grizzlies maintained control of the ball for the final 56 seconds to secure the victory.
Grow scored six goals and added one assist of her team-high nine shots in the match. She also won a team-high six draws. Ingram tallied four goals on five shots, while Hobbs rounded out the scoring attack with one goal and an assist.
Senior Paige Clark (Jefferson, Ohio/Jefferson Area) recorded two draw controls and attempted four shots in the match.
Wolter made five saves and captured four ground balls to pick up the victory in protecting the net. Sophomore Morgan McIntosh (Palatine, Ill./Palatine) added two ground balls among defenders.
Franklin returns to action on Saturday, March 26, at 11 a.m. when it travels to Thiel College for an ORWLC contest.
