Football Hits Road to Indy for Saturday Night Showdown at Butler

Game Notes

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College football team will make the short drive to downtown Indianapolis for a game against Butler University of the non-scholarship, football-only NCAA Football Championship Subdivision on Saturday, September 12, at 6:30 p.m. from the Butler Bowl.

The game is the first of two consecutive night contests for the Grizzlies, which will host Anderson University to start Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play on Saturday, September 19, at 6 p.m. That contest will be the second-ever night game at Faught Stadium.

Franklin seeks to even its season record in the non-conference finale, after losing the home opener, 34-24, to Illinois Wesleyan University last Saturday. The team was the preseason choice to win the HCAC championship, and represent the league in the NCAA Division III national playoffs.

Butler is also coming off an opening-week setback, a 52-17 loss at Indiana State University last Saturday. The team was picked to finish fifth in the Pioneer Football League regular-season race in a preseason vote of the league's coaches.

The two central Indiana teams squared off in 2013, with the Bulldogs picking up a 31-28 victory at Faught Stadium. The Grizzlies' last win in the series came in 2008, with a 31-28 triumph at Butler.

Sophomore quarterback Chase Burton (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) completed 35 passes and threw for 324 yards in his first collegiate start against Illinois Wesleyan.

Senior split end Mason Deal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) was Burton's favorite target, catching nine passes for 67 receiving yards.

Junior running back Ty'Ronte Files (Ocala, Fla./Vanguard) had six receptions out of the backfield, and added a rushing touchdown last Saturday.

Defensively, senior linebacker Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) registered 14 tackles in the season opener. Sophomore defensive lineman Dmitri Wilson (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) forced two first-quarter fumbles and added four tackles. Junior linebacker Austin Day (Indianapolis, Ind./Decatur Central) had a team-high two tackles for loss.
