Box Score North Manchester, Ind. - The Franklin College men's basketball team surpassed the 90-point plateau for the second-straight game in picking up a 91-82 Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) road win at Manchester University on Wednesday.
Junior Trae Washington (Bloomington, Ind./Bloomington South) scored a career-high 30 points and connected on eight three-point field goals to lead the offensive attack. The eight three pointers tied a school record previously held by Brad Jones ('87-'88) and Jim Sigler ('99-'00). The reigning HCAC Player of the Week also recorded six assists.
Sophomore Aaron Mann (Indianapolis, Ind./Howe) added 18 points, while sophomores Brandon Scruggs (Royal Center, Ind./Pioneer) and Robbie Prather (Franklin, Ind./Roncalli) each scored 13 points.
The Grizzlies (3-9, 2-3 HCAC) shot 57.7 percent from the floor and made 17 of 27 three-point field goal attempts (63 percent) in the contest.
Franklin used a 20-3 run over the final 5:04 of the first half to take a 42-31 lead. Washington scored 20 points in the first half on 7-of-8 shooting, including all six of his three-point field goal attempts.
In the second half, the Grizzlies took a 49-38 lead after a three-point field goal by Washington at the 16:58 mark. The lead grew to 14 points, 59-45, after another three pointer by Washington with 14:26 left.
Manchester (2-10, 1-4 HCAC) cut the deficit to nine points, 67-58, after a pair of free throws by Brady Dolezal with eight minutes remaining. However, consecutive three pointers by Scruggs pushed the lead to 73-58.
The lead remained in double figures until Manchester's Dolezal hit a three-point field goal to trim the lead to 80-74 at the 2:27 mark. Later, Dolezal made two free throws to bring Manchester within five points, 83-78, with 1:22 left.
The Grizzlies made eight of 10 free throws in the final minute to secure the road win.
