Game Notes

Game Program (Designed by Touchdown Club President Gordon Cox)

Franklin, Ind. - The Franklin College football team doesn't shy away from challenges. That's why the Grizzlies are opening the home season on Saturday against No. 1-ranked University of Wisconsin-Whitewater – the third time in four years that they have played a defending NCAA Division III national champion.

Kickoff is set for 1:30 p.m. at Faught Stadium.

The Grizzlies are hosting a defending Division III national champion for the second time in program history, also hosting UW-Whitewater in 2011. The team opened the 2013 season at defending champion University of Mount Union.

Saturday's meeting is the fifth time Franklin and UW-Whitewater have played since 2010, with the latest game coming in a second-round matchup in last year's NCAA playoffs.

The Grizzlies stand 0-1 on the season after a 42-35 season-opening road loss to 2013 playoff participant Illinois Wesleyan University last Saturday.

Senior quarterback Grant Welp (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) tossed three touchdown passes and threw for 303 yards in his first collegiate start at Illinois Wesleyan. He also led the team in rushing with 60 yards on the ground.

Senior Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) caught seven passes for 82 yards and a touchdown in the season opener. Classmate Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) also had seven receptions and caught a touchdown pass from Welp.

Senior Dylan Jenney (Floyds Knobs, Ind./Floyd Central) was named to the D3football.com Team of the Week after having a team-high 98 receiving yards on five catches, including a touchdown, at Illinois Wesleyan.

Defensively, junior Lucas Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) posted a career-high 12 tackles and had an interception last Saturday. Twin brother Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) recorded eight tackles, while sophomore Ethan Bailey (Greenwood, Ind./Greenwood) made seven stops.

Live statistics and video of the game will be available. In-game updates will also be available on Twitter (@FCAthletics) and on Facebook (www.facebook.com/FranklinCollegeAthletics).
