Volleyball Earns Two Wins at Rose-Hulman, Improves to 3-0 in HCAC

Terre Haute, Ind. - The Franklin College volleyball team earned a pair of victories over Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology and Illinois Institute of Technology on Saturday. The Grizzlies are 3-0 in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) play, matching its best league start since 2005, while improving to 13-6 for the season.

The team defeated Rose-Hulman in four sets (25-22, 25-22, 20-25, 25-18) in a HCAC match, before sweeping Illinois Institute of Technology (25-20, 25-20, 25-21). The victory was the first at Rose-Hulman since 2006.

Franklin had four players record eight or more kills in the victory over Rose-Hulman, led by freshman Amanda Lelivelt (Chippewa Falls, Wis./Riverside Brookfield) with 11 kills. She also chipped in three blocks defensively.

Junior Kourtney Settle (Vallonia, Ind./Brownstown Central) and freshman Brooke Harvey (Clinton, Ind./South Vermillion) each added nine kills. Settle committed just two hitting errors and had a .389 hitting percentage in the match. She also had a match-high six blocks.

Junior Emily Young (Avon, Ind./Avon) tallied eight kills, while senior Jordan Finke (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) recorded seven kills against the Engineers.

Sophomore Ashley Bazier (Terre Haute, Ind./Terre Haute South) had a season-high 44 assists to help distribute the offense. She narrowly missed her career high of 45 assists against Anderson University on September 8, 2013 as a freshman.

Bazier also led a balanced defensive effort with 21 digs. Junior Mackenzie Wieneke (Seymour, Ind./Seymour) and freshman Sarah Labra (Indianapolis, Ind./Ben Davis) each recorded 15 digs. Junior Theresa Brown (Indianapolis, Ind./Lutheran) added 10 digs.

Against Illinois Tech, Young and Finke led the team with nine kills each. Lelivelt recorded eight kills. Harvey and Settle each added six kills.

Bazier recorded 33 assists and had three serving aces. Brown led the defensive performance with 11 digs. Wieneke chipped in 10 digs.

Franklin returns to action when it hosts Spalding University on Tuesday, October 7 at 7 p.m. in the Spurlock Center. The match is make-up contest from a postponement on September 16.
