Franklin, Ind. - Sole possession of first place in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) will be on the line when the Franklin College football team travels to Mount St. Joseph University on Saturday, October 18 at 1:30 p.m. from Cincinnati, Ohio. Both teams enter the match up with 4-0 league records.
The Grizzlies, 4-2 for the season, have won four consecutive HCAC titles and 37 of their last 38 conference games. MSJ brings in a 5-1 overall record.
Franklin is led by senior quarterback Grant Welp (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park), who ranks among the top 10 among NCAA Division III quarterbacks with 19 touchdowns and 1,818 passing yards. He ranks second on the team with 222 rushing yards, and is tied for team-high honors with three touchdowns on the ground.
Welp completed 22 of 28 passes for 303 yards in last Saturday's 49-20 homecoming victory against Earlham at Faught Stadium.
Senior running back Joey Pasquale (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) has accounted for seven touchdowns this season. He leads Franklin with five receiving touchdowns and 366 receiving yards. Pasquale has caught 16 of his 25 passes during the past two games.
Senior wing back Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) leads a balanced receiving unit with 28 catches. Classmate Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) has recorded 25 receptions, and junior Mason Deal (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian) has caught 20 passes this season.
Defensively, junior linebacker Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) leads the team with 60 tackles. Senior Trevor Yates (Kendallville, Ind./East Noble) is tops with two interceptions, and has added 27 tackles. Six Franklin defenders have recorded an interception this season.
Senior Jameson Brock (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) has made 32 tackles and recovered one fumble.
