Football Scores 80 Points in Win at Earlham

Richmond, Ind. - No. 14-ranked Franklin College gained 608 offensive yards in an 80-14 road victory at Earlham College in Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference football action on Saturday afternoon at Darrell Beane Stadium.

The Grizzlies (2-2, 2-0 HCAC) wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard, tallying 31 points in the first quarter. Senior Jonny West (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) threw five touchdown passes in the first half. West hooked up with junior Zach Cole (Middletown, Ind./Shenandoah) on an 11-yard pass to start the scoring.

Senior Kyle Linville (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) caught the first of his two touchdown receptions with 10:51 remaining in the first quarter. The score gave the Grizzlies a 14-0 advantage.

Leading 14-7, senior Mike Wood (Greenwood, Ind./Center Grove) connected on a 34-yard field goal. West found senior Joey Pasquale (Noblesville, Ind./Noblesville) for a 23-yard touchdown pass for a 24-7 lead at the 5:30 mark of the first quarter. Linville later was on the receiving end of a 41-yard pass to close out the 31-point first quarter.

Franklin added 21 more points in the second quarter to take a 52-7 halftime advantage. The visitors also scored 21 points in the third quarter.

West ended the game 23-of-32 for 287 yards passing and five touchdowns. The offense was turned over backup quarterback junior Grant Welp (Ferdinand, Ind./Forest Park) for the second half.

The Grizzlies threw for 311 yards, but had a season-best 297 yards rushing in the contest. Sophomore Eli Moore (Kingman, Ind./Fountain Central) led the rushing attack with 79 yards and a touchdown. Senior Kyle Holzbog (Huntingburg, Ind./Southridge) scored a touchdown and gained 43 yards.

Cole had a game-high eight catches for 56 yards. Linville led the receivers with 89 yards on five catches. Both players tallied two touchdown receptions in the victory. Junior Jonny Hession (Speedway, Ind./Speedway) caught three passes for 53 yards.

Defensively, the Grizzlies forced six turnovers, including four interceptions. Senior Zach Zehren (Madison, Ind./Madison) led the effort with two interceptions. Senior Zack Corpe (Elkhart, Ind./Elkhart Memorial)  and freshman Trevon Sevion (Beech Grove, Ind./Beech Grove) each had one interception. Corpe, a preseason All-American, has now recorded 17 career interceptions.

Senior Jordan Segner (Anderson, Ind./Highland), senior Scott Moore (Kingman, Ind./Fountain Central) and sophomore Jeremiah Windell (Corydon, Ind./Corydon Central) led the team with each having six tackles.

Preseason All-American senior punter Michael Parks (Shelbyville, Ind./Shelbyville) averaged 53 yards per punt, including a season-long 56-yard effort.

Franklin returns to the field on October 12 when it hosts the College of Mount St. Joseph on Homecoming at 1:30 p.m. from Faught Stadium.
