Three matches in, Franklin men's soccer coach Josh Hughes is still waiting for his team to put together a complete game.

On Sunday afternoon, the Grizzlies nearly came away from an uneven performance with a win, but a late Heidelberg goal allowed the host Student Princes to salvage a 1-1 tie.

"We have to start better," Hughes said. "We've started all three games slowly. Second half was better, but yet to have a 90-minute performance."

Despite being outshot 4-1 during the first half, the Grizzlies (0-1-2) kept the match scoreless thanks in part to freshman goalie Austin White, who stopped all four shots on goal he faced.

After the break, Franklin got a couple of shots in the first 10 minutes, including one on goal from freshman Emilio Quintero. Finally, with 23:08 remaining, freshman Tripp O'Brien broke the stalemate when he converted a feed from classmate Ben Johnson.

Heidelberg applied pressure late and finally broke through after a corner kick, netting the tying goal with 5:04 on the clock. Neither team was able to break the tie in the closing moments.

Austin Horner made one save after relieving White at halftime.

The Grizzlies will try to get in the win column on Wednesday evening when they travel to Asbury.
