For nearly two-thirds of Saturday afternoon's match, Franklin women's soccer did what it needed to do in order to steal a point from perennial HCAC power Hanover.
The Panthers, though, were able to pick up a pair of second-half goals and come away with a 2-0 victory at Faught Stadium, spoiling the Grizzlies' home opener.
Despite a 10-0 shot deficit in the first half, the Grizzlies were able to keep the match scoreless behind six saves from freshman goalkeeper
Abi Medaugh. The stalemate continued until late in the 59th minute, when Hanover took advantage of a defensive lapse to score the decisive goal.
A long shot from outside the box with 14:54 remaining gave the Panthers some additional cushion, which held up with the Grizzlies (2-6-1) not managing a shot on the day.
Medaugh wound up with nine saves in a losing effort.
The Grizzlies have a week to regroup before traveling to face Mount St. Joseph next Saturday (Oct. 3).
