Baseball Completes Three-Game Sweep of Brits

Playing its fourth game in as many days, Franklin baseball went with the pitching by committee approach to get through Sunday's series finale against Albion.

The host Grizzlies found just enough to get the job done, twice coming from behind to gut out an 11-9 win at McDowell Field.

After the Brits regained the lead at 9-8 with a two-run homer in the top of the eighth inning, the Grizzlies (9-4) responded with three runs in the bottom half. Garrett DeHart reached on a one-out double and came home on a base hit to left by Drew Helton. Noah Loveall then reached on an error, and Dyllan Redmon followed with what proved to be the winning hit, a two-run double into the gap in left center.

Davis Wagner, who worked the final 3.1 innings out of the bullpen, worked around a one-out single in the ninth to finish it off and earn the win.

Franklin fell behind by two runs in the first but scored four in the third. Colin Goley scored from third when DeHart stole second, and DeHart came in on a Helton single. Loveall followed with his sixth home run of the season, a two-run shot.

Albion tied it up with two runs in the top of the fourth before the Griz answered with three. After Gavin Fields led off with a home run, Nic Deering singled to score Goley and then came around on another RBI single by Helton.

The Brits tied the game up with one run in the fifth and two in the sixth, but Franklin went ahead 8-7 in the seventh when Alex Billman scored on a passed ball.

Helton had three of the 10 Griz hits and drove in three runs; Loveall and Redmon knocked in two runs apiece.

Franklin takes its four-game win streak on the road to face Millikin on Wednesday (March 18, 4 p.m.).
