Fresh off picking up their first point of the HCAC season on Saturday, Franklin men's soccer looked to build on that momentum when it traveled to Earlham on Wednesday afternoon.
Unfortunately for the Grizzlies, a spirited match that saw nine yellow cards and a red handed out finished with the host Quakers hanging on for a 1-0 win.
Franklin (0-9-3, 0-3-1) had the first shot on goal for either side, with
Ulises Rivera putting a ball on frame early in the 24th minute. Earlham answered back with a shot of its own a bit more than four minutes later, though, and that attempt found the net for the lone goal of the contest with 17:24 left in the half.
Griz goalkeeper
Austin White stopped a pair of shots late in the first half and another early in the second to keep the visitors within a goal, and Franklin got a golden opportunity when Earlham received a red card that left the visitors a man up for the final seven minutes and 20 seconds. But aside from a wide shot attempt from
Jacobo Alarcon Salazar in the 88th minute, the Grizzlies were unable to get a crack at tying the game.
White finished with four saves in a losing effort for the Grizzlies, who were outshot 7-2 overall in a match lacking many offensive opportunities.
Next up for Franklin is a home match with Rose-Hulman next Wednesday evening (Oct. 14, 7 p.m.).
