Women's Basketball Rolls to Victory at Earlham

Coming off of a surprising loss on Wednesday night, Franklin women's basketball left nothing to chance on Saturday.

Payton Seay scored 21 points and Taylor Turk notched her first collegiate double-double as the Grizzlies cruised to a 90-63 triumph at Earlham.

A Turk 3-pointer got the ball rolling on a 12-2 opening run for Franklin (14-4, 9-2 HCAC). The Quakers came back to tie it twice late in the first quarter before baskets from Briley Munchel and Avery Kelley put the Griz back up 22-18 going into the second period. Earlham briefly went ahead, 23-22, before consecutive 3s from Kate Breeden and Turk got the visitors back on top for good.

The Grizzlies scored nine straight points late in the first half to get a little bit of separation, then stretched the advantage to 70-51 by the end of the third. The margin grew as large as 31 points late in the fourth after a Cailyn Baechle 3-pointer and an Ava Reitmeyer bucket.

Seay added eight rebounds and four steals in her 26 minutes of action. Turk posted career highs of 12 points and 11 rebounds for the Griz, who also got 14 points and eight boards off the bench from Lydia Wright, 11 points from Munchel and 10 from Molly Schulte. Breeden chipped in nine points and a team-high five assists.

"There were a lot of great things from a lot of players today," Griz coach Ashley Blanch said. "I love that we can count on everyone to come in and do their job."

Franklin shot a robust 10 of 19 from 3-point range and hit 45% of their field goals overall while going a perfect 10 of 10 from the foul line. The Quakers also hit 10 3s but were a more chilly 34% from the field in all; they also missed eight free throws (9 for 17).

Next up for the Grizzlies will be a Wednesday (Jan. 28) home game against Rose-Hulman. The 7 p.m. contest will also double as Faculty and Staff Appreciation Day.
