A road game against a solid opponent was a difficult enough hill for Franklin men's soccer to climb with 11 players on both sides.
Trying to climb it a man down proved too much for the Grizzlies, who suffered a 7-0 defeat at Albion on Saturday afternoon.
Though outshot by a 15-2 margin in the first half, Franklin (0-6) kept itself within a goal until late in the first half, when the Brits got a Xavier Yuille goal with 3:39 remaining to double its lead to 2-0.Â
The floodgates opened after halftime, though, as Griz defender
Kameron Darnold was hit with a red card in the 48th minute; within three minutes of that infraction, Albion had upped its advantage to 5-0, effectively locking in the outcome.
"We've got to figure out how to be more disciplined," Franklin coach
Josh Hughes said. "Second straight game with a player sent off — makes it hard to win when you play with 10 men the majority of the game."
Albion, which posted its third consecutive shutout, tacked on two more goals in the last 10 minutes of play.
Jaime Silva made three saves and
Graham Klein two for the Grizzlies, who got their lone shot on goal from
Russell Bilohlavek.
Franklin will be back at Faught Stadium on Wednesday when it welcomes Heidelberg for a 7 p.m. matchup.
