ELSAH, Ill. – The Franklin women's tennis team hit the road for two matches in Illinois on Friday and Saturday (Mar. 7-8), taking on Greenville and Principia.
The Grizzlies (3-7) came home with a split for their weekend, dropping Friday's match to Greenville (4-4) by a 6-1 score before rallying on Saturday for a 5-2 win over Principia (0-4).
In the matchup with Greenville, the Grizzlies claimed their point thanks to a 6-4, 6-4 win from
Mattie Foster at No. 6 singles.
Brenna Atchison and
Emma Sappenfield teamed up to take the No. 2 doubles match 6-1.
Against Principia, the Grizzlies earned the doubles point by sweeping all three matches.
Ailyn Hendricks and
Sydney Carson teamed up for a 6-2 win at No. 1 singles followed by a pair of 6-0 wins from Atchison and Sappenfield at No. 2 as well as Foster and
Sofie Ballesteros at No. 3.
Franklin claimed the win with singles wins coming from the 3-6 players in the lineup. Ballesteros won 6-0, 6-2 at No. 3 singles followed by Atchison taking a 6-1, 6-2 decision at No. 4. Sappenfield was a 6-2, 6-0 winner at the fifth spot and
Michiah Draper was a 6-1, 6-3 winner at the sixth position.
