FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's tennis team welcomed the Berea Mountaineers to Grizzly Park for the first time as conference opponents, with the two teams meeting on Saturday (Mar. 15) morning.
The Grizzlies (4-7, 1-1 HCAC) claimed their first league win of the campaign, beating the pending severe weather in the area and claiming a 5-0 victory over the Mountaineers.
All five of Franklin's points came in singles play, with the Grizzlies taking all five decisions decisively.
Ailyn Hendricks was a 6-0, 6-0 winner at No. 1 singles and was followed by a 6-0, 6-3 win from
Sydney Carson in the second spot in the lineup.
Sofie Ballesteros won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 3 singles,
Brenna Atchison was a 6-1, 6-2 winner at No. 4 singles and
Emma Sappenfield claimed a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 5 singles to round out the action.
Mattie Foster was holding a 3-0 lead in the final singles match before play was halted due to the weather. Doubles competition was scrapped as a result.
The Grizzlies hit the road on Thursday (Mar. 20) for another conference match, when they face the Hanover Panthers. First serve is set for 4:00 p.m.
