RECAP | Franklin Claims Seventh Straight HCAC Women's Swimming Championship

TERRE HAUTE, Ind. – The Franklin women's swimming and diving team remained the only program to capture the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) championship, winning the team title for the seventh straight year.
 
The Grizzlies finished the event with 656 points, fending off a final day push from Transylvania to maintain their dominance over the rest of the conference.
 
After the event ended, Franklin collected three of the meet's major honors. Senior Kamryn Elder was named the HCAC Female Diver of the Meet and sophomore Kat Lundy collected HCAC Female Swimmer of the Meet honors. Finally, head coach Zach Rayce was named the HCAC Women's Coach of the Year after guiding the Grizzlies to victory in his first season at the helm of the program.
 
Saturday Recap
Lundy made her push to earn the Swimmer of the Meet honor with two dominant individual wins on the final day, as she won both the 200 backstroke (2:06.03) and the 200 butterfly (2:16.32). Celeste Hollis claimed Franklin's other gold medal on day four after winning the 100 free with a time of 52.54. Senior Erin Perkins earned a pair of medals to close out her final conference championship, placing second in the mile (18:51.21) and third in the 200 breaststroke (2:29.90).
 
Claiming silver medals on the final day were Petal Sloan in the 100 free (52.55), Avery Tomlinson in the 200 breaststroke (2:27.26) and Macie McQuinn in the 200 butterfly (2:23.04). Other finalist finishers were Bri Gogis placing fourth in the 200 backstroke in 2:14.11 and Jyllian Antle taking fifth in the same event in 2:14.96.
 
Finally, the Grizzlies' 400 free relay team of Hollis, Lundy, McQuinn and Sloan rounded out the championship by taking second place with a time of 3:37.42.
 
Friday Recap
Sophomore Kat Lundy turned in a dominant swim to win the 100 backstroke, hitting the wall with a time of 56.97 to set a new HCAC meet record. Fellow sophomore Avery Tomlinson picked up her first individual gold of the weekend, winning the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:07.76.
 
Celeste Hollis took first place in the 100 butterfly with a time of 57.39 and Landi Newcomb placed third in the same event with a time of 58.33. Petal Sloan earned gold in the 200 free with a time of 1:55.08 with Macie McQuinn behind her in fifth with a time of 2:02.73. Jyllian Antle took bronze in the 400 IM with a time of 4:51.15 with Bri Gogis finishing one spot back with a time of 4:53.06.
 
In the final women's diving event of the weekend, Franklin once again swept the medal positions, this time in the one-meter diving event. Kamryn Elder won her second gold medal of the weekend after racking up 407.25 points with Alexis Fleming claiming silver with a score of 392.20 and Kaleigh Schuler picking up bronze with 367.70 points.

Thursday Recap
Franklin claimed six medals on day two, with a podium sweep of the 50 freestyle highlighting the day's efforts. Celeste Hollis won gold with a winning time of 24.40 with Petal Sloan placing second in 24.70 and Landi Newcomb taking bronze with a time of 24.85.
 
Avery Tomlinson snagged silver in the 200 IM with a time of 2:14.87 with Bri Gogis narrowly missing out on a medal with a fourth place finish and time of 2:17.23. In the 500 freestyle, Erin Perkins took bronze with a time of 5:25.16, finishing one spot ahead of Macie McQuinn and her time of 5:30.31.
 
Franklin's final medal of the day came in the 200 free relay, with the quartet of Hollis, McQuinn, Newcomb and Sloan claiming gold with a time of 1:38.23, coming in .20 seconds ahead of second place.
 
Wednesday Recap
Franklin claimed a podium sweep in the three-meter diving event, with senior Kamryn Elder winning the first gold medal of her career with 409.60 points over 11 dives. Alexis Fleming earned silver with 396.05 points and Kaleigh Schuler took bronze with a score of 379.50.
 
In the 800 free relay, Franklin claimed a pair of sliver medal finishes in the championship races. The women's team of McQuinnPerkinsLundy and Sloan recorded a time of 7:59.10.
