A bus ride south to Louisville didn't do anything to deplete the energy level for Franklin women's basketball on Wednesday night.
The Grizzlies started strong, using a 16-0 run across the first and second quarters to take command, and never let up on the way to a 75-54 triumph at Spalding.
"Super proud of our team effort tonight," Franklin coach
Ashley Blanch said. "Everyone did their job to help the team. We came out strong right from the start and never let up."
With the score tied early at 9-9, Franklin (3-2) took the lead for good when
Molly Schulte converted a layup, got a steal 30 seconds later and turned that into another layup.
Payton Seay added five straight points to send the Grizzlies into the second quarter up nine, and the hits kept coming.
Jordan Coon — who finished with a game-high 30 points — bookended a Schulte three-point play with a pair of buckets, putting the visitors ahead 25-9 with 6:24 to go in the half.
Franklin went into the intermission with a 36-19 cushion and stretched it to 64-31 early in the fourth period before coasting to the finish.
Coon added seven rebounds and four steals, both team highs, while Schulte finished with 14 points, six boards and three steals.
Erica Buening chipped in with nine points in reserve. The Grizzlies enjoyed a 48-35 rebounding advantage and forced 25 turnovers in the win.
Blanch's team has the next two weeks off before coming home to open HCAC play against Anderson on Dec. 3 at the Spurlock Center. Tip time for that game — which will be Franklin's Go Pink for the Cure night — is scheduled for 7 p.m.
