Franklin women's soccer saw its chances at a first conference victory take a hit in the opening minutes on Saturday afternoon.
One player short for most of the match after a red card in the fifth minute, the Grizzlies suffered a 6-0 setback against Mount St. Joseph at Faught Stadium.
The Lions had a breakaway opportunity early that resulted in a red card against freshman defender
Alaina Kellerman. The visitors used the 11-on-10 advantage to pick up goals in the 10th and 20th minutes before the floodgates opened late in the first half. Three goals in the span of four minutes and seven seconds stretched the MSJ lead to 5-0 going into the half.
The Grizzlies' lone shot came off the foot of
Abby Bryant in the final minute of the match. The Lions finished with a 21-1 advantage in total shots, but that margin was just 6-1 in the second half.
"A lot of damage happened before we regrouped at halftime with some different tactics," Franklin coach Jen Jackson said. "The girls never gave up even though the situation was tough from the very beginning."
Franklin (1-8-1, 0-2 HCAC) returns to its home field on Wednesday when it hosts Rose-Hulman.
"We don't have time to feel sorry for ourselves," Jackson said. "We have to regroup and recharge and be ready for the next one."
