OHIO ROAD TRIP FOR GRIZ
Fully rested after a bye week, Franklin looks to even its record to 2-2 on the season when it travels to Muskingum Saturday for a 6 p.m. showdown. The Muskies have won all four previous meetings between the two schools, but those games don't seem particularly relevant given that the last one came in 1915.
Â
LAST TIME OUT
The Grizzlies jumped out to a 14-0 lead at Trine two weeks ago before the Thunder answered with four consecutive touchdowns on the way to a 35-27 victory.
Jordan Fonda caught a pair of fourth-quarter touchdown passes from
Marshall Kmiecik to fuel a Franklin comeback bid that ultimately fell short.
Carter Edney had seven tackles, including two for loss and a sack, and also forced a pair of fumbles, but the Griz had no answers for Trine quarterback RJ West, who was 30 of 40 passing for 435 yards and four touchdowns.
Â
THE MARSHALL PLAN
Kmiecik has had success through the air in his first full season as the starting quarterback, completing 56.6% of his passes for 760 yards and eight touchdowns against just two interceptions. The sophomore has found several reliable targets, with Fonda (16 catches, 317 yards, 4 TDs) and
Jace Mohr (18 catches, 116 yards, 3 TDs) leading the way.
Â
HOLD THE LINE
The Grizzlies have gotten good production from their defensive linemen early in the season, with a new hero popping up almost every week. Edney led the charge against Trine, while
Seth Rindfuss caused havoc in the season-opening win over Ohio Northern with a pair of late quarterback hurries that helped seal the outcome.
Devonte Brown has three QB hurries and a pass breakup from his end position.
TWIN KILLING
Siblings Amari and
Shamari Gittings have both made their mark on the Franklin defense, ranking among the team's leading tacklers. Amari ranks fourth on the Griz D with 16 total tackles, while Shamari is right on his heels with 15 and a pass breakup.
Â
CAN'T MAKE THE TRIP?
For any Griz fans who can't make the long eastward trek, Saturday's game will be available via pay-per-view on
Flo College.
Â
AROUND THE HCAC
While Franklin wraps up its nonconference slate on Saturday, the other HCAC teams will be getting familiar with one another. Hanover is on the road against Rose-Hulman, Manchester travels to Bluffton and Mount St. Joseph hosts Anderson.
