Franklin men's soccer did everything it needed to do in order to win at Anderson on Saturday afternoon — except put a ball in the net.
The Grizzlies battled with the Ravens throughout, but a late first-half tally proved the difference as the home team held on for a 1-0 triumph.
"We showed some improvements," Franklin coach
Josh Hughes said. "We're continuing to get better defensively, which is encouraging. Even the goal we conceded was off a silly mistake in possession. Have to get better on the ball so that we don't have to defend as much as we have to."
Lucas Flores had a chance to put Franklin (1-11, 0-4 HCAC) on the board first, putting a shot on goal in the sixth minute, but his attempt was turned away. Anderson then got the only offense that either team could muster, taking the lead on a Brendan Hall goal with 4:24 left in the half.
While goalkeeper
Easton Terry (six saves) and the Griz defense did their part to keep the game tight, the attack did what it could to net the equalizer but came up empty. Flores had another shot on frame in the 61st minute, and
Theo Sasso had a low shot denied by a diving save with 1:12 remaining in the match.
Anderson finished with a 25-5 advantage in total shots, but the margin in shots on goal was just 7-3.
