FRANKLIN – The Franklin men's tennis team opened the 2024 season on Saturday (Sept. 7) with a pair of home matches against Trine and Webster, held at Grizzly Park.
The Grizzlies (1-1) secured a split for the day, falling to Trine 7-2 in the morning before rallying to best Webster in the afternoon by a 5-2 count.
Against Trine, sophomore
Jaden Wells came away with a say in both of Franklin's points, winning at No. 2 doubles with
Clark Hersam by a 6-2 score. In singles play, Wells needed three sets to take his victory at No. 4 singles and did so in comeback fashion with a 2-6, 7-5, 10-8 victory.
Against Webster, Franklin swept doubles play to earn the point. Hersam and
Dustin Garrison were 6-4 winners at No. 1 doubles,
Marcus Cox and
Lucas Densford teamed up for a 6-3 win at No. 2 doubles and
Nathan Jarboe &
Shay Kyser were 6-1 winners from the third position.
Singles play saw the Grizzlies grab four victories to seal the win. Cox was a 6-3, 7-6 winner at No. 2 doubles, Hersam won 6-3, 6-3 at No. 4,
Brendan Hanner was a 6-3, 6-2 winner at No. 5 and Wells finished off a spotless day with a 6-2, 6-3 win at No. 6.
Up next for Franklin is a trip to Ann Arbor, Mich. Next Saturday (Sept. 14) for a matchup with Concordia Michigan. First serve is set for 3:00 p.m.
