OLIVET, Mich. – The Franklin College men's tennis team hit the road for the first time in the fall over the weekend, taking on both Albion and Olivet on Sunday (Sept. 15).
The Grizzlies are coming home with a pair of victories, taking a 6-1 decision over Albion in the morning and earning a clean sweep of Olivet in the afternoon.
Franklin 6 – Albion 1
Franklin claimed all three doubles matches to earn the point and did so with relative ease. The top pairing of
Dustin Garrison and
Clark Hersam were 6-2 winners, as were the No. 2 pairing of
Marcus Cox and
Lucas Densford.
Nathan Jarboe and
Shay Kyser teamed up to win 6-1 at No. 3 doubles.
Singles play saw the Grizzlies claim five victories, starting with a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles from
Owen Pickerill. Garrison was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at three singles while Hersam rallied to win 4-6, 6-1, 10-5 at No. 4 singles.
Brendan Hanner was a 6-0, 6-2 winner at the five spot and
Jaden Wells was a 6-2, 6-2 winner at No. 6 singles.
Franklin 7 – Albion 0
In another dominant display in tandem play, Franklin rolled to the doubles point with a sweep of all three matches. Garrison and
Ezra Schwier were 6-3 winners at the top of the lineup with Densford and Jarboe winning 6-1 at the No. 2 spot, with Kyser and Pickerill matching that score in a win at No. 3 doubles.
Cox won 6-2, 2-6, 10-4 at No. 1 singles with Hersam taking a 6-2, 6-3 win from the No. 2 position. Hanner was a 6-2, 7-5 winner at the third position, Wells won 6-0, 6-0 from the fourth spot, Pickerill was a 6-2, 6-2 winner in the fifth position and Densford won 6-1, 6-0 at No. 6 singles.
The Grizzlies are back at it next weekend, taking part in the ITA Fall Tournament from Sept. 20-22.
