FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's soccer team collected their first win of the 2024 campaign on Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon, besting Saint Mary's (IN) by a 1-0 score on a warm afternoon at Faught Stadium.
The Grizzlies (1-3-2) got the winner in the second half from
Sydney Lovett and the defense shut the Belles (2-3) down after getting the opener to seal the victory.
How it Happened
After a cagey first half that featured just two shots on target combined, the Grizzlies struck in 68
th minute for the game's only goal.
Jaiden Baker played a through ball down the right wing to a charging Lovett, and the striker drilled a high shot that deflected off the out-stretched hand of the Saint Mary's keeper before bouncing into the net.
The Belles had a couple more looks at goal before the final buzzer, but could only generate three shots on target from long range, each handled with ease by Franklin goalkeeper
Makenna Mundy.
