RECAP | Lovett's First Goal Fires Women's Soccer to Saturday Win

FRANKLIN – The Franklin women's soccer team collected their first win of the 2024 campaign on Saturday (Sept. 14) afternoon, besting Saint Mary's (IN) by a 1-0 score on a warm afternoon at Faught Stadium.

The Grizzlies (1-3-2) got the winner in the second half from Sydney Lovett and the defense shut the Belles (2-3) down after getting the opener to seal the victory.

How it Happened
After a cagey first half that featured just two shots on target combined, the Grizzlies struck in 68th minute for the game's only goal. Jaiden Baker played a through ball down the right wing to a charging Lovett, and the striker drilled a high shot that deflected off the out-stretched hand of the Saint Mary's keeper before bouncing into the net.

The Belles had a couple more looks at goal before the final buzzer, but could only generate three shots on target from long range, each handled with ease by Franklin goalkeeper Makenna Mundy.

Inside the Box Score
-Shot attempts were 15-7 in the Belles' favor and 5-3 in shots on target.

-Lovett and Maddison Claybrooke each had two shot attempts.
